Costa Rica.

I can’t believe our honeymoon was almost 3 months ago. It was a though decision on where to go as we have both been to the Caribbean , Luis is Mexican and we already have a trip planned this year to Mexico. A week was too short to go to my homeland and Europe. ( saving that for next year) We first thought maybe Aruba. Belize. We went back and forth and finally decided on Costa Rica. And I’ll tell you out of all of my travels I wouldn’t hesitate moving there. Costa Rica is breathtaking, cultural, rural, unique, simply amazing.
We had our trip planned where we left the day after the wedding. Leaving little bean was soooo hard on all three of us, but going on our honeymoon was much needed for us. Packed our bags and head to Central America. We landed early, we took a redeye there! Rented a car and headed trough the most amazing rural town, Liberia. Northern part- the dry part of Costa Rica closer to Nicaragua! Our car was the smallest, funny, not fast POS. Known as a Yaris. Epic! We weren’t in the jungle for more than 10 min before someone passed us, and try to run us off the road, there is no speed limit. Drive at your own risk! Luis loved it! I on the other hand was petrified. First thing I noticed the cows, they were all skinny. Weird right. Noo. There was a reason for that and it’s because lack of protein in their food, it’s too dry. Strange, jungles are usually wet, well not in June and not in this part! Way more volcanic! It took us an hour to find our resort. ( well we got lost) it was awesome! The culture blew my mind away! We finally pulled up to the most magnificent resort I’ve ever been to! The RIU palace. Luis upgraded us to the honeymoon suite with an ocean view. Full bar, patio, jacuzzi, the whole nine yards! Our patio not only faced the ocean but the jungle as well. At night we could hear the monkeys and other animals! Amazing! We spent a few days relaxing, being newly weds! Drinking a lot of Micheladas! Wine. Imperial beer. Indulging in the amazing food. The beautiful sunshine. Toes in the sand. Swim up bar. Meeting a few new funny friends! Mimosas. After a couple of days we knew we wanted to go on an adventure after all it is Luis and I! We have to try new things together. We decided we were going to zip lining, I’ve never been and if you know me at all you know i HATE heights. ( vertigo) . But Costa Rica is known for surfing, zipping and pure life! The greatest motto ever ” pura vida” so we went! I had a few adult beverages and faced my fears. Not only did we do regular zip lining, Luis decided we were going to be the only ones out of our group to do extreme! Fly like a batman, over 300-500 ft in the air on a line as long as 1400 meters! Yup! I thought I was gonna pee my self! But I’ll tell you it was the most incredible thing I’ve ever done! Even the Tarzan swing that I almost bailed on was awesome! Another big adventure we did was take an ATV tour trough a small rural jungle village, it took all day, we stopped at the ugliest beach in Costa Rica, muddy! To the most incredible beaches. Then went to the most rural, cultural bar I’ve ever been to and had a few coronas! All for us since Luis was Mexican and we were on our honeymoon! That day was so trilling and epic. I couldn’t even describe it to you even if I tried! You had to be there! We spent a lot of time at the beach! Ate the most amazing dinners! Danced the nights away! On one of our last days In Costa Rica we did something I’ll never forget. The World Cup was going on while we were down there and guess who was in the running for the first time EVER! Yup! COSTA RICA! Costa Rica! ( they had a chant) We knew we had to watch the game with the locals! So we drove our shitty little car into a town called Coco Beach. Sat down. Had appetizers, and limey seafood! Ohh god so good! And drank many many Micheladas! Costa Rica sadly lost but I witnessed some amazing culture, a Country bond, and so many eye opening things that Us Americans take for granted! One of the things I’ll remember about Costa Rica is how they keep the county clean, they pay you for your recycling. What an amazing thing! And people want to keep Mother Earth clean down there. It warms my heart! Anyway! It was one incredible honeymoon. Drove back to the airport the next day and headed to Miami for a day! Boy was that a hot mess! So fun! All and all costa is incredible I wouldn’t mind visiting yearly! Maybe investing in property! Or just going down to get a piece of mind and feel peaceful!! I would highly recommend it to anyone! PURA VIDA! Amigos!

We finally got married. and it went like this..

As most of our family and friends know Luis and I have been dating for what it seems to be a lifetime. But to be exact its been almost six years. And i can tell you that everyday hasn’t been the best. We don’t have the ordinary fairy tale. But what we do have is very own happily ever after. When Luis and I discussed getting married we always knew we wouldn’t get married just because we had Elena. Even though a blind man could see that it was her existence that changed both of us as individuals. We looked at the world differently and each other. our love only grew stronger as each day past since her entrance into our lives. I was meant to have a baby before getting married. ” i just know it”!

Weddings are strange I tell you.. So much work and planning can go into one. Luis and i both really wanted to get married on the beach. We even flew down to Mexico and looked at different resorts. And after lots of research and discussions we both decided that our wedding was going to be fairly large. (160 people to be exact). And it would be kind of hard to get everyone to the beach. At first we also decided to have a fall wedding in Colorado, beautiful right??!! first a beach wedding then a fall.. Just to end up having our wedding in the summer at a garden. And ill tell you’ we were suppose to get married there, it took my breath away the first time i saw it, i envisioned my self walking down the rustic stairs, with the smell of fresh flowers, beautiful waterfall, and incredible mountain views. Next to a modern barn. With the wedding reception being held at what resembled a greenhouse with garage doors that remained opened during dinner and dancing. Brookside gardens, was where we got married.

I guess i can also tell you a little about my dress, theme, desserts, etc. You know all of that hard work that goes into a wedding. Since we decided to have a summer wedding in a garden, what better theme than soft pink, ivory, tints of grey with of course my favorite bohemian decor. As much as i wish Betsy Johnson or Vera Wang could have designed my dress that just wasn’t in my budget nor did i want to spend a lot of money on it. i however did want something that i only had. i bought for 300$ at David’s Bridal and then decided to make it my own, redesign it and cut it up. It was the most perfect ivory lace, a-line dress. So beautiful. It fit perfectly. I was over the moon.

I remember going to all of the different vintage shops and buying different decor and deciding on a dessert bar, our cake and desserts we made by the amazing La Loma Maes in Longmont. So delicious! I cant wait to actually eat it on our anniversary. i wanted coconut. And Luis wanted red velvet. We ended up with almond coconut with red velvet. ( different layers) i hear it was to die for. I only had a bite and the rest served as moisturizer thanks to my new husband. I still chuckle when i think about our cake cutting! The detail on all of the dessert was very bohemian to compliment the theme, everything was ivory and lace with a tint of grey.
Most of our wedding detail was done by myself and our amazing bridesmaids. Fresh flowers, I love roses, pink in particular, paired with baby-breath and greens, so beautiful. My bouquet was made of 26 roses and baby’s breath hand wrapped in burlap with pearls. Pearls are my birth stone, so naturally I wore pearl jewelry too!

I think the hardest part was the music that took us the longest to decide on. If you know Luis and i at all you know we both have a deep love for music. Music festivals were a major part of our relationship and we both knew we somehow had to incorporate that into our wedding; what better way than to give a thanks to our guests with a soundtrack of our wedding.
I think this was my favorite little detail of the wedding. We hand picked every song and they each had a meaning at one point or another in our relationship and wedding. we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

The morning of our wedding Luis and i we both so nervous and anxious, there might have been some bickering. It wouldn’t be us if we didn’t disagree about something. The weather was ugly it rained all morning. The say that rain is good luck. Well with the amount that down poured i think our luck might never run out! Lucky us. Our ceremony was short and sweet. We were fortunate enough to have one of our best friends marry us. A beautiful reading by Luis’s dad. Sand ceremony three vases, one for me, one for Luis and of course our Elena. We stood and faced one another the whole time Luis holding my hand with both of his. Well at least until Elena decided that she wanted daddy to hold her. It melted our hearts. And then there it was. The big kiss, and Mr. Clayton Warwick blessed us and we walked off as husband and wife.

We were so blessed with the incredible people that attended our special day. The speeches. The hugs. The sweet tears. What a day celebrating Luis and i’s love! It was only right that we finish the night off dancing. I hope everyone enjoyed our wedding day as much as we did!
